A few words about how the site is organized and some of the features you will find here.
Articles, Posts and Inside Pages
The bulk of the content here at Internet Newcomer is in our articles and posts. The differences between the two are length and time sensitivity. All of them are about topics of interest to Internet Newcomers but articles are longer and are intended to be useful for a long time. Posts are shorter in length and also have a shorter lifespan. Both articles and posts appear in the right column of the site, in the reverse chronological order in which they were written (the newest ones will be at the top).
Inside pages (like this one) are not mixed in with articles and posts. They contain information about the site (rather than about our topics) and will change very infrequently.
Our Filing System
OK, I hear you saying, but if the newest stuff is always at the top, how do I find the older stuff when it’s been pushed off the bottom? Glad you asked, because in the left column of the site you’ll find links that allow you to search in various ways:
- Categories – Every article or post is assigned to one or more categories. Clicking on a category link displays only the content belonging to that category.
- Archive Index – This page displays archived content by publication date (month and year) by category.
- Inside – This list of links to our inside pages displays only one page at a time.
- Search – Enter keywords to search for in all site content.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are a great way to make sure that you are notified about new content as it is added to Internet Newcomer. There are two ways to subscribe:
- Email Subscription – Click on the email link, fill in your address and we’ll send you an email every time we add something new – simple.
- RSS Feeds – For those of you using a feed reader, such as Google Reader or Bloglines, these links contain the URLs of our feeds. There’s one for content and another for comments.
Comments
Please comment! We need your feedback to guide us on what we write about. There is a comment box at the bottom of every article and post. You don’t need to register or provide any information other than your name and email address (your email address will not be published). The rules are simple: Be nice. Keep it clean. Stay on topic. No spam.
We review all comments before they are published. In almost all cases, we will not edit comments. Either they are published as written or not published at all. All published comments are expressly passed into the public domain.
Tags
At the end of all articles and posts, we’ve added a few keywords that describe the content. Clicking on any of these will lead you to other content that has been similarly tagged.
Links
Linked text is blue. All article and post titles link to the single-post display for that content. Links to previous and following posts are displayed above and below the content you are viewing.
When long articles are displayed on pages along with other posts, they often have a (more…) link. This leads to the single-post display for the entire article.
Links to external sites may be found on the Useful Links page.
Images
Most of the thumbnail size images in the content will enlarge when clicked. If there are multiple images on the page, you can step through them like a slideshow when they are enlarged. It’s pretty cool.
We don’t use images unless we have permission and we provide attribution whenever possible.
